I spent some time in Gulfonodi tonight, including picking up a few stray Caldari State crews who seemed to have lost their way. Hopefully a few of them will sign on with me, as they’ve generally got some decent training from those megacorps.

But then I ran across a Rattlesnake who was slicing through a Cartel fleet. Not much I could do to stop him, either. I had a couple of my Hurricanes crewed up and on standby, but that seemed like a fight I’d lose in a hurry.

Instead, I informed him in the Local channel that I was there on a Cartel ‘search and rescue’ mission. He didn’t seem to mind, so he didn’t start torpedoing the wrecks like some of those homicidal maniacs. I picked up everybody I could. Apparently the local capsuleers haven’t seen many salvagers lately.

Guess I’ve found the place for me to work for now.

Cartel SAR gone awry

No, I don’t plan to talk much about where I’ve been lately. Let’s say it involved a lot of drinking and leave matters there. I should probably note, however, that I’ve gotten myself into a contract with the Angel Cartel. So far? Totally worth it. Talk to me offline if you want to know more.

I got back out in Emolgranlan today with a Hurricane in my hangar. This way, I figured, if somebody shot at me while I went out on SAR duty, I could come back and finish the job. I ran across a mission contractor in a CNR who shot at me, but when I returned, he’d already fled the scene. The local Angels didn’t really understand why I had appeared, I guess, since they later shot out my Vigil from under me. Too bad, because I had a couple of nice girls on board… Still, I got some nice equipment out of it all, so in the end I made a decent profit on the sortie.

Later, though, I ran across a Drake who fired on me as well. When I returned in the Hurricane, he also fled. I holed up nearby in D-scan range and waited. Sure enough, after a few minutes, I saw a Drake on scan again. Hm, different ship name? No matter, he’s probably trying a little psyops or something.

Unfortunately for me, this Drake had come prepared. A Drake that flew faster than a Hurricane? With a point equipped? I hadn’t quite expected that, so I lost another pair of nice girls on-board the battlecruiser. Oh, and the crew. Always a few more folks looking for work, though, particularly given how many Cartel crews I’ve brought back from deadspace wreckage.

UPDATE: The girls survived. Not that it matters to me directly, but this way the others back in my suite won’t get too melancholy.

Keeping it clean

I spent some time in Emolgranlan tonight, checking out the belts and seeing what I could see. We have an ice belt out here, so I thought I’d go make sure everyone was keeping it clean.

That wasn’t entirely the case, unfortunately. They didn’t have any jetcans out but they’d left rat droppings everywhere — Angel wrecks. That just wouldn’t do, so I took whatever they’d left.

I noticed my overview showed a Domination Ambusher had met his end here, but then my sensors reported that the wreck still had some equipment left in it.

Despite the fact that I was over 100 km away, I proceeded with all due haste and found it chock full of interesting stuff. The tag and Domination Proton S looked good…

…but that Low-Grade Halo Alpha looked even better. In Heimatar, it’s only worth about 6m ISK, but that still made my day.

The Ninja Alliance

Even hanging out with these folks has been fun. I joined The Ninja Alliance channel and have found folks to be friendly and helpful. Discussions of ship ganking and theft, corporate infiltration, and training plans. I did some carebear stuff in the past, but it always ended up feeling like work. This, though… it feels like fun.

Mwahahaha, evil things are afoot!

Odd reactions

Some people’s reactions confuse me. Tonight in Balginia, I had a couple of ships target me. While they belonged to different corporations, their call signs (nameless100 and nameless101) lead me to believe they are associated in some way. Unfortunately, they never actually opened fire, so I couldn’t get onto any CONCORD killmails. And in fact I never could get them to say anything. Tear fail, on my part.

But when I discussed this in the Local channel, another kind pilot invited me into a deadspace area he’d just cleared. Lots of large and medium Serpentis wrecks everywhere. I cleared something like 8 million off the site, and I didn’t even have to scan it down. Thanks, DioKahn!

Of course, his corporation (Pure Evil Warriors) has this in its description: “Pure Evil Warriors [.PEW.] – Can you fly T2? Like Solo and small gang fleet PVP? Ninja’ing? Flipping? High Sec WareFare (sic)? Looking for PVP pilots that want to experience a crap load of fun.” So maybe that explains some things. Still, I kept an eye on my directional scanner, just in case.

I’ve mostly worked out of Balginia so far. In many ways, I like it a lot: close to Rens, popular level 4 agents, and plenty of NPC kills. Not too many other salvagers, either. But I run into a lot of battlecruisers running level 3 missions, too, and those don’t provide nearly as much salvage or loot. So I’ve started looking at the whole region for options. The Sveipar constellation looks like it might provide a lot of useful locations, with a high density of level 4 agents, a decent market in Pator, etc. I still might have trouble working through the scan hits to find something useful, but only one way to find out.

In other news, I’ve started training Minmatar Frigate V. Hopefully soon enough I can get into assault frigates and start picking fights with smaller ships like cruisers and battlecruisers. I think I’m still a bit out from being able to take on battleships, though.

Vigil setup

Despite a few miscalculations here and there, Heimatar has been good to me lately. Between my Probe and a fleet of Vigils, I’ve managed to earn sufficient ISK to get all my basic quality implants. Occasionally, when I want to live on the edge, I fit out my Vigils a little more extravagantly:
